With us on the verge of electing a Socialist President, I thought that I might try to persuade the one or two people who will happen upon my blog between now and when they vote.
What is a Socialist? When you say “spreading the wealth around,” what does that really mean?
I posted this last year, in an off election year. Read it and then we will talk some more.
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew.
She didn’t even have time for a boyfriend, and didn’t really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, “How is your friend Audrey doing?”
She replied, “Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She’s always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn’t even show up for classes because she’s too hung over.”
Her wise father asked his daughter, “Why don’t you go to the Dean’s office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.”
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father’s suggestion, angrily fired back, “That’s a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I’ve worked really hard for my grades! I’ve invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!”
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, “Welcome to the Republican party.”
I have also talked about the Socialist model that the Pilgrims from the Mayflower used the first year or two they lived here. The whole colony almost starved because a lot of people in the colony would rather take a starvation level existence than have their work taken away to be given to those who did no work. But things exploded when that restriction was taken away. When given a plot of land and allowed to do with it as they pleased, they produced what the colony needed to survive several times over. No wonder why they threw a party!
Look at it this way. Right now, 40%, that’s FORTY PERCENT of the American population pay NO Federal taxes. In fact, they generally receive money from the government rather than paying out. Sure these people generally live in run down conditions. I mean, to have a wife and 3 kids and be making about 24k a year (or less) you just don’t own your own home. If you’re like most Americans, you have two car payments, and credit card debt up to your ears, then wonder why you can’t get ahead. No wonder you look forward to April 15th, that’s a lot of money for your family!
So what does Obama want to do? Tax the rich and give to the poor. He’s an original Robin F-in’ Hood. You don’t make the poor rich by giving money to them. They make themselves rich by hard work and perseverience. Of course, in 99% of the cases, they don’t have that mindset, that’s why they’re poor.
No matter what you do, you can’t make that bell curve a straight line. You know, the bell curve that shows the number of people versus the amount of wealth they have. It’s a classic bell curve, you would have learned about it in high school if you had been awake during Geometry class.
That bears repeating. No matter what you do, you can’t make that bell curve a straight line. You must always pay doctors more than plumbers. Why else would someone go through ten years of school and residency? If you had a choice, go through that, or the process to become a plumber and be paid the same either way, which job would you take? Socialism drags the bell curve to the left. You will make everyone poorer, but you will still have those with more money than others.
If you want to help the poor, find a way to push the curve to the right. If everyone worked hard, studied hard and all that then the curve would move to the right. You would boost the average upward, not downward.
But taxes aren’t about making money for government, its about control. If I can dole out just enough for you to be lazy, not work and still live, I become your cash cow and you don’t want to see the gravy train (what little there is) stop. So you vote for more bread and circuses rather than lower taxes that would allow you (with a little hard work) to get ahead and be prosperous. The hard working will always be with us. They will find a place to be prosperous in, even if it’s not the United States. And the poor will always be with us, because some people are just lazy.
If you want to help the poor, cut off the dole. Show them that if they don’t get off their fat asses and start to work, they will starve. Give them job training, anything they need but a permanent subsidy to live off of. Now if someone genuinely cannot work, then they deserve our help. But even then, they should be allowed to grow and maybe eventually get off disability and be a contributing member of society.
For those of you who haven’t read through my blog and don’t know my history, I was struck by bipolar disorder in 1999. I lost my job, my home and my family. My wife got me on disability, and we have been living on that for the past 9 years. I am on the verge of possibly getting off the disability soon. I have an important interview tomorrow, and if I get the job, I will be able to get off disability.
If you elect Obama, he will make matters worse by taxing more from those with money. Those truly who are in the position to help those without money by creating jobs. That’s the way you help the poor, give them jobs, not a subsistence level existence. If that money is taxed away, then no jobs are created. No job growth and the economy stagnates. And on and on and on. We’ll look like Europe, with generous holidays, taking the month of August off (as in the whole country) three day work weeks and everything else. Any what has France created lately?
I can’t tell you who to vote for, but please vote against Obama. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
