End of the Income Tax?

Alan Greenspan, Mr. Money, is in favor of a consumption tax over an income tax. Raw Data: Greenspan Statement.

“As you know, many economists believe that a consumption tax would be best from the perspective of promoting economic growth — particularly if one were designing a tax system from scratch — because a consumption tax is likely to encourage saving and capital formation,” Greenspan said.

Okay, but for once I agree with the Democrats. This will hurt the poor, i.e. ME. I live on less than $10,000 a year and I barely make it as it is. To add even a 3-5% National Sales Tax, would hurt me severely, and I promise you the NST will not be that low. It will be more like a 10-15%, which will make it impossible for me to survive.
Unless they want to dicker around with the NST like they do the present tax code and exempt things like groceries.
But Greenspan is right. People will want to save to avoid paying the tax. They will invest in their retirement plans, and just save up. Enough items will still be sold to maintain and grow the economy, but people will hopefully dig themselves out of debt and save like they never have saved before.
I’ll reserve my opinion until something concrete is floated out.

Defensive gun use saves lives

Here is a story about the news of the guy who rampaged through Tyler, Texas the other day with a semi-automatic rifle. He was getting ready to kill someone when an armed citizen shot him several times. The bad news is the bad guy had a ballistic vest and the shots didn’t kill him. The armed citizen paid with his life, but he saved at least one other life, and quite possibly more, as he bought time for the police to get there and kill the gunman. Good Samaritan Gun Use.
We all know how Liberally biased the MSM is, but let’s look at some numbers:

Of the 71 unique news stories found by a computerized Nexis search of stories in the four days after the attack, 38 percent mention that an AK-47 or high-powered rifle was used by the attacker. As usual, gun control groups called for more gun control.
[...]
Only two stories mentioned that the AK-47 was a semi-automatic, not a machine gun, and, while it is understandable, none of the articles provided context by explaining that Arroyo’s weapon functioned the same as deer hunting rifles, firing the same caliber bullets, at the same rapidity, and doing the same damage.
Seems like pretty standard media coverage. But what makes this case different is that 21 percent of the news stories actually mentioned that a citizen licensed to carry a concealed weapon used his gun to try and help stop the attack. [emphasis mine]

I think that’s pretty pathetic. The filtering of the truth, or what is left out because it doesn’t fit the reporters paradigm is absolutely disgusting. It also shows how ignorant the MSM is about guns.
Only 3% of the stories mentioned that the weapon used is a semi-automatic. None of them told you it’s just like 10 million deer rifles across the United States.
This is almost as bad as the “story” by CNN where they were showing the “lethality” of 30 round magazines. The guy doing the demonstration used a 30 round magazine to fire off to rounds, destroying a watermelon. He then shot the same type of ammo, this time from a 10 round magazine. He intentionally missed with all 10 shots to show that the 10 round mags were “safer” than 30 round mags.
The man who died defending others should be buried as a hero. Bury the other bastard face down.
