It’s not flip-flopping, it’s pandering

This article, How Kerry won, shows how Senator Kerry can talk out of both sides of his mouth at the same time.

Sean [a listener] explained that he was an opponent of the war in Iraq and only now could he finally vote for John Kerry. I asked him what Kerry said that confirmed that the Democratic candidate was his man.

Sean: “I believe he has a plan.” (Kerry said he has a plan some 12 times.)

Prager: “A plan to do what?”

Sean: “A plan to withdraw our troops.”

And then I understood: No matter what position you hold about American foreign policy and the war in Iraq, John Kerry holds your position.

If you read the quotes in the article, you see that Senator Kerry holds both for and against positions on Iraq, quite often at the same time.

I am reminded of a clip of SNL that I saw, it has Kerry in a debate, saying, “I am not flip-flopping! I have consistently held pro-war positions in front of pro-war groups, and anti-war positions in front of anti-war groups. This is not flip-flopping, this is pandering!”
